Why AI Won’t Replace Your Business — And What It Will Do Instead
Table of Contents
A while back, I was part of a group of women — lovely women who were just looking to meet people, make friends, have coffee, maybe some cake, a book club, a movie club. You know the kind.
And one day, someone brought up AI.
The mood shifted immediately.
“It’s going to replace us.” “There will be no need for humans anymore.” “We shouldn’t even be using it.”
And I’m sitting there — well, technically reading the WhatsApp chat — thinking:
We said the exact same thing about the telephone. About television. About the internet.
Every single time a new technology comes along, we are terrified. Because we don’t really know it yet.
And every single time, what happens is that we learn how to use it.
It’s just a tool. And tools don’t replace people. People who know how to use tools replace people who don’t.
How I Accidentally Became an AI Educator
Right there in that group, someone asked if I’d be willing to do a lecture about AI.
I said yes. Just like that. No big plan, no grand strategy. Just a simple yes.
I wanted to share what I knew, and then let people decide for themselves. Some will embrace it. Some won’t. And that’s completely okay — who am I to tell someone they’re wrong for being cautious?
But something amazing happened.
They were fascinated. Not scared anymore — fascinated.
Because here’s what I’ve learned about fear:
Most of the time, fear isn’t really about the thing itself. Fear is about not knowing.
When you don’t understand something, your brain fills in the gaps with worst-case scenarios. That’s just human nature.
But the moment you start to understand something — the fear starts to shrink.
Three, four lectures later, people were coming up to me saying:
“You taught me not to be scared.” “I actually went home and tried it.” “I didn’t think I could do this — but I can.”
And that, right there, is why I do what I do.
But Can't AI Learn to Sound Like Me?
This is the question I hear most often.
Yes — AI can learn to mimic your tone, your words, your style.
But it cannot replicate your thinking. Your experience. Your instincts. Your relationships. The reason a client trusts YOU specifically.
That part? Still 100% human.
The 80/20 Rule and Why It Changes Everything
You’ve probably heard of the Pareto Principle — the 80/20 rule. The idea that 20% of your efforts produce 80% of your results.
In your business, that 20% is YOU.
Your relationships. Your expertise. Your judgment calls. Your client conversations. The things that actually bring the money in.
That is where your time and energy should be going.
But most small business owners spend a huge chunk of their time on the other 80% — the repetitive, the routine, the administrative.
And that is exactly where AI shines.
Not to replace the 20% that matters most — but to take the weight off the 80% that supports it.
Think about things like:
- Following up with clients — everyone means to do it, but somehow it always gets pushed to tomorrow
- Translating or adapting content for different audiences or platforms — the same message, just dressed differently
- Summarizing research — instead of spending hours reading, you get the key points in minutes
- Answering the same customer questions — writing your FAQs once properly and letting AI help you respond consistently every time
These are not glamorous tasks. But they eat time. And time, for a small business owner, is everything.
The Balance Is Your Competitive Advantage
Giving AI 100% of the work? Not a strategy I’d recommend.
The businesses that will thrive are the ones that find the right balance:
AI handling the repetitive. Humans handling the irreplaceable.
That balance is your competitive advantage.
Your Challenge This Week
Pick ONE thing in your business — just one — that takes you more time than it should.
And ask yourself: Could AI help me with this?
Start there.
If you’re not sure where to start, send me an email at info@ymniza.com. I actually read every single email from humans — because, you know, I’m a small business owner. Of course I read the emails. 😄
The Bottom Line
AI is incredible. But you still have to show up. You still have to think. You still have to be the human in the room.
And remember:
AI works for you. Not the other way around.
